Directions Marketing Recognized by Smashing Magazine for Creative Web Navigation Menu
NEENAH, Wis., June 16, 2011 — Directions Marketing, a full-service integrated marketing communications and packaging agency based in Neenah, Wis., was recently recognized by Smashing Magazine—a trade blog for Web designers and developers—for applying a well-executed accordion style navigation scheme to its company website.
According to Smashing Magazine, "good navigation is the main cornerstone of an effective website. In practice, however, it's often a tough challenge to come up with a meaningful, unambiguous way to organize, arrange, and display content to users; and it's often not much easier to find a visually interesting solution either."
"Website design and development should be creative, intuitive and user-friendly," said Sherry Olig, senior interactive marketing coordinator for Directions Marketing. "Creating an easy-to-use website navigation menu is essential. When adding animation effects, you want to be careful that you don't overdue it. You want to use the effects to the user's advantage, making the navigation experience as intuitive and as smooth as possible."
Featured in the blog post, "Showcase of Creative Navigation Menus: Good and Bad Examples," Directions Marketing, among 32 other websites, was included as a good example of sliding sections. Sliding sections are often used when an individual or company has a lot of content to deliver, but wants to encapsulate that content using less space. Sliding sections provide the Web designer and/or developer the opportunity to focus the user into one specific block of content at a time, which can minimize distracting the user with other information. "In addition to having clear navigation, it's imperative to have a solid website strategy in place that not only is going to meet your goals, but also create a strong user experience, while following industry best practices for usability and accessibility," Olig added. "At Directions Marketing, we help our clients everyday with website strategy, design and development; optimizing page content and appearance; building and maintaining data structures, and measuring and analyzing website performance for increased conversations."
